Every individual deserves to be
treated with dignity and respect
Verbal abuse and bullying hurts a great deal. It wounds self-esteem and, if unaddressed, can escalate to where it results in severe emotional and physical injury.
No individual deserves this.
But, as we’ve learned over the last few years, a large percentage of our population are affected by verbal abuse and bullying and the problem is getting worse. This increased awareness is an important step in addressing this devastating problem — but now we need solutions.
That’s what Verbal Defense is all about.
Verbal Defense is based on the work on Dr. George Thompson, who has studied methods to prevent and de-escalate conflict for over 27 years, published four books (with over 300,000 copies sold) and trained more than 1 million people throughout the world. In 2009, a major effort was undertaken to apply Dr. Thompson’s methodologies to the problem of bullying.
Dr. Thompson’s work can be summarized by his Five Universal Truths of Human Interaction — that all people want to be:
- Treated with dignity and respect
- Asked rather than told to do something
- Told why they are being asked
- Offered options rather than threats
- Given a second chance
We all deserve to be treated according to these principles — and that’s the goal of Verbal Defense.
We hope you take the time to learn about our efforts.
